How to scan a QR code from a screenshot or image

Read a saved QR image locally when the code is already on the same phone or computer.

Quick answer

Use the original image when possible. A decoder needs the complete square code, enough blank border, and pixels that still preserve the module pattern.

Step by step

Save or select the screenshot, crop away unrelated content without cutting the blank border, and open it in the QR decoder. If it fails, retry with the original resolution or a tighter crop rather than enlarging a blurred copy.

Common mistakes

Do not upload private tickets, login codes, or payment QR images to unknown services. A decoded link can still be unsafe, so read the destination before opening it.

Completion check

Check that the decoded text is complete, inspect the domain and scheme, and copy it only when it matches the expected sender or service.
